High Risers
The middle and upper classes of The Divided City — those who live sealed inside the Rises, above the toxic air.
High Riser is the name given to the middle and upper-class inhabitants of The Divided City of Kastkardia — those who live inside the Rises, the high-rise buildings that make up the city and the vast indoor network that runs between them.
Sealed behind advanced filtration systems that keep the toxic air of the Realm at bay, High Risers very rarely leave the towers at all. They are the city's innovators, designing, developing and manufacturing its technology, and its wealth averages well over a hundred times that of a Dweller below. The government's attention rises with the buildings: the Supreme Lord Chancellor and The High Council attend far more closely to the Rises than to the Dwelling, and the comfort of the one is maintained, in large part, at the expense of the other.
The Rises are split into numerous districts, divided for the most part by profession and industry, and often by height as well — the lower, more accessible levels tend to house the lower-classed residents of the Rises, while the higher levels are reserved for those of high societal standing, such as company owners and government officials.
"Filthy High Risers. Most of 'em wear fancy shit to prove how much they don't have to do manual labour! It's sickening." — J. Randhouse
