The Scraps
The vast technological wasteland that rings The Divided City, standing between it and The Shroud — and the hunting ground of the Scrappers.
The Scraps is the name given to the vast technological wasteland that rings The Divided City in the Realm of Kastkardia, acting as a barrier of sorts between it and The Shroud. It gets its name from the fact that the entirety of the wasteland is littered with discarded metal — mostly defunct technology, machine parts, and other materials either dumped by the High Risers or created by the mysterious energies of The Shroud. These materials are often scavenged by Scrappers, Dwellers who comb the wasteland for anything of use or value.
Locations
The Scraps is divided into two "rings": the inner ring and the outer ring.
The inner ring is the safest part of the Scraps, beginning at the edge of the city and extending out approximately 45 kilometres in all directions. Its proximity to the city keeps it largely unaffected by the energies of the Shroud, though its air remains mostly toxic, and it contains various highways that allow travel from one side of the city to the other without passing through it. Its outer edge is marked by evenly spaced markers, each containing a communication device, used by Scrappers and others lost out in the Scraps as waypoints to call for help.
The outer ring extends a further 15 or so kilometres, out to the Shroud itself, and is far more dangerous — the influence of the Shroud is strong here, and the risk of dust storms and Scrap Dragons much greater. The only people to venture into it are generally Scrappers, as it tends to contain the more valuable materials and items, an effect of the energies of the Shroud. As it approaches the Shroud, the last 500 or so metres become a barren wasteland containing no scrap at all.
